[Curator] ‘Folkert de Jong’ @ Cc Maasmechelen & Studio Pieter Stockmans
The universe of Dutch sculptor Folkert de Jong is darkly morbid and absurdist.
His sculptures reference both art history and classical sculptural traditions, while drawing on pop culture themes like horror, comics, and fantasy. Unlike traditional materials such as bronze or marble, De Jong works with everyday industrial matter — styrofoam and polyurethane foam. These unconventional materials not only shape his forms, but define his distinct palette: baby blue, the color of styrofoam, and a grimy yellow, the hue of polyurethane.
Curated by Herman Maes and Marc Milissen, the artist’s work is presented across two exhibitions in Belgian Limburg:
Actus Tragicus at CC Maasmechelen andTotemism at Studio Pieter Stockmans.
